Fit Studio

Fit StudioDiscovering the perfect bicycle fit is essential for you to truly enjoy the bike and realize its potential.  A poor fit will not only be uncomfortable, it can cause injury.  For many cyclists, this becomes a frustrating process, and searching for the “perfect fit” becomes as arduous and futile a task as looking for the holy grail. Plum Grove Cyclery will put an end to your search by educating you and finding the correct fit for your body’s unique geometry and health history.  For over 25 years I have accumulated a large data base of knowledge by completing thousands of fittings, educating myself through seminars and courses, and communicating with experts in the field.

My formal training began way back in 1985, with a course with The New England Cycling Academy, when bicycle fitting was just emerging. Years later as technology advanced and bicycle frame options improved, I met David Greenfield of Elite Bicycles and took my fit process to the next level with a much better understanding of human physiology and force application.  As measurement tools offered a more accurate picture of riders’ fit coordinates, the process of achieving the best fit possible improved.  More recently, I travelled to Manhattan and attended a weekend long training session with Paul Levine at Signature Cycles. Mr. Levine is the former head of Serotta International Cycling Institute and has a unique insight into the human body and its interaction with the bicycle. My training continued when I travelled to Saratoga Springs and attended a 3 day seminar at the Serotta International Cycling Institute headed up by Paraic McGlynn and Chris Jacobsen.  I plan to continue to avail myself of the latest technology and advancements in bicycle fitting to provide our customers the best possible fit.

At plum Grove Cyclery on Rockland Farm, we offer two different levels of the fit process in a private studio, available by appointment only to fit your schedule.

On The Bike Fit  - $150   Fee includes labor only

We will take your existing position and optimize it within the limitations of the existing size and component options.  Foot/pedal relationship is optimized, knee tracking is addressed, pelvic rotation and saddle position are optimized.  Back profile is discussed with examples of what not to do to assist in rider improvement.  Handlebar profile and real estate are examined along with arm and elbow position as well as wrist alignment.

The Professional Fit - $225   Fee includes labor only

The next level in the fit process is includes all the features of On The Bike Fit but includes an interview and body assessment before we begin to address the bike.  Subjects covered include injury history, athletic history, occupation and stress level as well as your goals moving forward.  Next we will document some specific range of motions that have a direct impact on final fit.

I look forward to working with you to find the best possible relationship with your bicycle.
